Sonny was born on May 5, 1954 the son of Orrest Claude and Ida Belle (Davern) Karlson. On May 26, 1973 he married Rosemary Ellen Thompson at St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church in Norwich.
Sonny attended BOCES during his high school career where he extended his knowledge of carpentry, adding many skills he learned from his father. He worked at TER and C&D cabinetry making and delivering cabinetry along the East coast, even delivering items to the White House. His craftsmanship extended to making vanities for each niece, building numerous bookcases and cabinets for family and friends. Sonny was always helping someone build a shed, deck, garage, kitchen or whatever.
Each fall Sonny looked forward to deer hunting. The camaraderie he shared with his deer hunting friends at Deer Run Ridge highlighted each deer hunting season. While working at Mayhood’s sporting Goods he came to meet and know many others who loved the sport of hunting. He was also employed for many years at Victory Markets and owned and operated a Freihofer route.
In high school Sonny played baseball which led him to become a Little League coach for his two son’s baseball teams. To sum up the life of Sonny Karlson in a simple statement is to say that he cared more about his loved ones than anyone could possibly imagine. He will always be remembered as a loving, caring and giving person. Sonny, dad, you will be sorely missed.
Sonny is survived by his wife Rosemary, sons Bill Karlson and family, Alan Karlson and family along with his sisters Maureen Nevins and Marilyn (Robert) Neuland.
