

Peredur “Perry” Owen, 91, of Norwich, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 after a courageous battle with COVID. He was born in Llanllechid Parish in Wales UK to the late George W. and Kate Owen. Perry grew up in the UK and served in the Royal Air Force, qualifying as a Pilot Officer Flight Engineer. After his military service, Perry resumed his education earning a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Ashridge University. He also received postgraduate training at Southampton and Birmingham Universities in the UK as well as Syracuse and George Washington Universities in the US.
Perry began his career working as a newspaper reporter for The Glamorgan County Times before eventually settling into sales and marketing in the pharmaceutical industry with Norwich-Eaton Laboratories in the UK as well as the US. Perry specialized in non-narcotic analgesics, dermatological, urological, anti-spastic agents and elemental diets. His achievements in the pharmaceutical field also include conducting over five hundred lectures and slide presentations in his area of expertise, author of a history of bone densitometry, compiling a bone densitometry course for physicians and technologists, organizing the joint conference on “Women’s Health after the Menopause” with Georgetown University Medical Center and the International Osteoporosis Foundation, and many other remarkable achievements.
Perry also volunteered in his community serving on the Chenango County Planning and Development Board, Norwich City Board of Education, Chenango County Council of the Arts, a trustee of the Chenango Memorial Hospital Foundation, a member of the American Society for Bone & Mineral Research, and numerous other committee and foundation memberships.
Perry’s interests include furniture making, completing his own home repairs and improvements, wine tasting, hunting, fishing, shooting skeet, and he was an accomplished poet and baker.
Perry leaves behind his wife of 43 years, Venetia, of Norwich; his daughters, Sian (Robert) Austin, of Pentrych, Wales, UK; Sandie (Pamela) Charles, of Port Crane, NY; his son, Huw (Barbie) Owen, of Staunton, UK; his grandson, Ben (Joscelyne) Austin, and great granddaughter Penelope of Kelvedon, UK; his granddaughter, Juliet (Steve) Davidson, of Marlow, UK; his brothers in law, Eardley deDonker, and Frank Dooley, of UK; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Perry was predeceased by his sisters in law, Adrienne deDonker, and Shirley Dooley.
At Perry’s request, there will be no formal funeral services. In lieu of flowers, donations in Perry’s memory may be made to the Chenango Memorial Hospital Foundation, 179 N. Broad St. Norwich, NY 13815
