
After a long and valiant fight Peter Asma of Norwich, New York was reunited with His Lord on Thursday evening, August 14, 2025. His spouse Julie (Lewicki) Asma and sister in law Deanna (Lewicki) Marshall were honored to be by Peter’s side at his earthly home as he was called to his eternal home.
Peter is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Julie of Norwich, NY; his beloved daughter Belinda and his son in law Brandon Whaley of Norwich, NY; his sister Anne and brother in law Eugene (Gene) Kehoe, of Clayton, NC; his brother John and sister in law Joan (Cappadonia) Asma of Sherburne, NY; his sister Jane Muserilli and her companion Jaime Iloff of Greene, NY brother and Matthew (Matt) of Norwich, NY; his sister in law Margaret Asma of Mesa, AZ; his sister in law Mary Asma of Covington, VA; his sister in law Marybeth Lewicki and her companion Abilio (Bill) Valentin of Palm, Bay, FL; his sister in law Kathleen Coye of Sherburne, NY; his brother in law Martin Lewicki and his companion Alana McCann of Norwich, NY; his sister in law Nancy (Harris) Lewicki of Norwich, NY and his sister in law Deanna Marshall and his brother in law Daryl Marshall of Wampsville, NY; his adored fur babies (kitties) Lizzy Elizabeth and Lily Emily. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Peter’s was predeceased by his parents Herman and Blanche (Kehoe) Asma of Norwich, NY; his brother Paul Asma of Mesa, AZ; his brother Mark Asma of Covington, VA; his father in law Henry Lewicki and mother in law Dorothy (Meade) Lewicki of Sherburne, NY.
Peter was born the son of Herman Asma and Blanche (Kehoe) Asma of Norwich, NY. He grew up on Tillman Ave in Norwich, NY and attended Holy Family School and Norwich City School.
Peter was a valuable and treasured employee of Victory Markets of Norwich, NY, Norwich-Eaton Proctor & Gamble, Norwich, NY and Holy Family School, Norwich, NY prior to his disability resulting from health problems.
Peter and Julie were joined in Holy Matrimony on September 28, 1991 at St. Paul’s Church in Norwich, NY. In 2010 Peter and his wife Julie were blessed to be matched in another miraculous way and Peter received the gift of his wife’s kidney during a transplant surgery that took place at New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York City on August 20, 2010.
Peter encompassed care and compassion for everyone around him. His family, his church community, the students at Holy Family School, his neighbors, his community and all animals.
He was a faithful and devoted Catholic Christian; he always had a hello too offer, offered a helping hand or word of encouragement to everyone. He enjoyed maintenance and repair projects around his home, taking on the domestic chores after his disability prevented him from working (especially errands that allowed him to interact with others), building shelters for feral cats in his backyard (and re-homing those that could be) and listening to music (especially country) and collecting all sorts of odds and ends. He will be dearly missed.
A Catholic mass will be held on Monday, August 25, 2025 at 11:00AM at St. Malachy’s Church, Sherburne, NY followed by a private burial at St. Malachy’s Cemetery, Sherburne, NY.
