My beloved husband of 26 years, devoted father, and devoted to all. Went home to be with God, On July 28th, 2019 at Chenango Memorial Hospital due to severe Heart problems. .His wife and family were by his side. Bob was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, on May 8th, 1941. He was born on May 8th, Mother’s Day and to Bob’s delight was considered a free baby. His late and wonderful parents were Genevieve and Arthur Hansen also of Jersey City, New Jersey.
For over twenty years Bob worked for Town Engineering and I. E. Shaffer of Trenton New Jersey. He was a pipe fitter by trade and a air-conditioning-heating man. In his early years, He worked for Marvel Lamp and Light Company out of Hoboken, New Jersey. He also, worked for a refrigeration company out of Jersey City, New Jersey. Then for a while he was a foreman for the new Carousel Mall in Syracuse, New York, installing all the air conditioning for the mall.
Bob had many talents of all sorts. First being he could fix anything he put his mind too. His greatest enjoyment was being able to fix things. He said it was not work to him but enjoyment. He was a man that had to be kept busy. Bob and some of his siblings raised and cared for pigeons for many years. This was an art in itself and how talented the pigeons were, and what they could be taught. The stories were insightful not only about pigeons but about the life of many birds that he knew about. He was a great history buff and could beat anyone at a game of chess. He was also a great pool player, being crowned Mr. New Jersey. His other great love was going to junkyards and flea markets, garage sales and thrift stores. He always found the most amazing stuff. Bob was a diehard Yankees fan for ever and ever. He spoke fluent Spanish that he learned from a friend growing up.
In 1987 Bob moved from Little Fairy, New Jersey to begin his life in Oxford, N.Y. He built his own house and lived there for a few years until his move to Norwich, NY. In 1993, he met Adrienne Mullins which would be his wife, and together bought many properties which he loved doing to try and flip them. This lasted for a time being until illness started taking over. This was such great joy for Bob, not being work but establishing something great again.
His other greatest talent was making meatballs, and his famous Chicken Chow mien. Bob loved to cook and was self taught. His ingenuity on just about anything was simply amazing. He was always helping someone, or fixing something for someone and never charged a dime.
Bob is survived by his present wife, Adrienne, his daughter Adelia Mullins-Birtch, and her two children, Cameron of Norwich, N.Y. and Casondra Birtch of Mary Ester, Florida.
