She married the love of her life, William M. Johnston on July 17, 1954 in Walton, NY and they spent 66 wonderful years together until his passing on September 3, 2020. Veronica and William relocated to Rome, NY where she worked for the telephone company and went on to spend many years in the retail industry in the cash office and as a Customer Service Manager. Together, they moved to a retirement community in Melbourne, FL where they enjoyed Florida life for 16 years and Veronica continued working for Target stores while living there. Upon returning to NY, the couple resided in Sidney and eventually Oriskany where they enjoyed many trips to the casino.
Veronica will be remembered as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt and sister. Quality time with her family was most important to her, she particularly enjoyed baking cookies with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Being called Grandma and GiGi was a source of pride. Veronica was a devout Catholic, she also loved line dancing and was a longtime member of the Red Hat Society. Her kindness will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Veronica leaves behind her children, Steven (Sandy) Johnston, of Florida, Kim Sacra, of GA, Tim (Jenny) Johnston, of GA, James Johnston (Sharon Brown), of Oriskany, William Patrick (Annalisa) Johnston, of Valley Stream, and Christopher (Sarsee) Johnston, of Oriskany; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and three siblings, Anne Scott, Betsy Jester, and Richard Lakin; as well as many nieces and nephews.
