Virginia E. Wright, 78, of Norwich passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2019, at the Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown. She was born on November 16, 1940 in Norwich the daughter of Marshall and Dorothy (Wright) Townsend and attended the Norwich schools. Over the years she has made her home in Norwich, Oxford and So. New Berlin. Virginia had worked for the old Blue Bird Bakery in No. Norwich, the Whitestore Restaurant and New York Central Ins. Virginia was first and foremost all about her family especially her grandkids. She loved to bake and at holiday’s you could expect to find a box of goodies in the mail or brought to your home. Her soap operas, especially The Young & the Restless as well as Bold & Beautiful were two of her favorites. Facebook was also one of her favorite ways to keep up on what was going on. She loved her laptop and enjoyed playing the many games it would allow her to do. Virginia was very proud of the fact that after many, many years of smoking she quit cold turkey about a year ago, quite an accomplishment for her. Virginia is survived by her children; Lisa (Rob) Gould of Norwich, Candy (Tom) Petry of South New Berlin, Laurie (David) Alexander of Sapulpa, OK, David Martin Stevens of Brooklyn and Ignacio Mendoza also of Brooklyn, her step-children Linda (Frank) Williams of Plymouth, Bruce (Karen) Wright of Norwich and Brian (Denise) Wright of South New Berlin, her grandchildren Courtney Washburn, Crystal Taylor, David Alexander, Bryan Petry and Deborah Petry, 15 great grandchildren and 8 step-grandchildren. Also surving are her siblings Bruce (Sharon) Townsend of Mission, TX, Jean (Alfred) Franklin of Norwich, Paul (Doris) Townsend of Norwich and Butch (Darlene) Townsend of FL. Several nice, nephews and cousins also survive. Virginia was predeceased by her son Lawrence Stevens, her husband Clyde and brother George Townsend. A Memorial service for Virginia will be held on Wednesday at 5pm from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. Interment will be at a later date in the Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Wednesday from 3-5 pm. Following the Memorial Service a luncheon will be held at the South New Berlin Fire House.
