William R. Tefft

William R. Tefft, 84, a lifelong resident of Oxford and owner of Bill Tefft Trucking, passed away early Saturday morning, February 17, 2018, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse. Bill was born on August 19, 1933 in Oxford the son of James R. and Naomi (Blanford) Tefft. He grew up in Oxford and graduated from Oxford School. Soon thereafter, Bill entered the United States Air Force serving his country during the Korean War. On January 5, 1952 in Oxford he married Blanche Simpson who survives. On March 23, 1955 Bill started Bill Tefft Trucking which he continued, along with his wife and family, to operate until his passing. Throughout his life Bill earned the reputation of being a hard worker. His business ventures, not only in Chenango County but throughout other counties as well, gained him many friends and acquaintances over the years. Bill enjoyed raising and working with horses in his free time. He also enjoyed driving his car around the countryside looking for wildlife and exploring different historical areas. Bill and Blanche danced with the Broken Squares square dance group for several years. He had quite a sense of humor and enjoyed practical jokes with family and friends. Bill is survived by his wife Blanche of Oxford, his children: William Tefft, Jr.(companion, Lisa) of Oxford, Linda (James) Meek of Oxford, Debbie Tefft of Hollis, ME, James(Saundra) Tefft of Oxford, Timothy (Donna) Tefft of Oxford, Susan Tefft of Oxford, Daniel (Tesha)Tefft of Bluffton, SC, and Rebecca Tefft of Oxford. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his sisters Sarah Seaman, and Ann Tefft and his daughter in law, Joyce Tefft. A Celebration of Bill's life will be held on Sunday, February 25 starting at 2 p.m. at the United Church of Oxford Fellowship Hall on Fort Hill Park where family and friends may stop to offer condolences to Bill's family and enjoy a bite to eat.
