Born in Taurasi, Italy, April 10, 1930, he was the son of the late Flaminio and Rose (Colantoni) Iarrobino. He was the beloved husband of 60 years of Carmela (Mottola) Iarrobino ; the loving father of Donna and her husband, Robert Donnellan, of Walpole, Rose and her husband, Vincent Dimino of Sutton, Dr. Agostino Iarrobino, Jr. and his wife, Julie of Westwood, and Anthony Iarrobino and his wife, Traci of Naperville, IL; the cherished grandfather of Christopher and Kaitlin Dimino, Laura, Gregory and Matthew Donnellan, Nicholas, Noah, Natalie, Cameron, Brett and Allison Iarrobino; the dear brother of Raffaela Latorella of Roslindale and the late Charles, Carmine and Giuseppe Iarrobino, Josephine Ferrone, Millie Pagnotta and Victoria Iarrobino; and the son-in-law of Carita Mottola of the North End. He is also survived by numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Agostino, also known as "Gus" to many, immigrated to the United States in 1949 from Taurasi, Italy and became a citizen of the U.S. It was in the U.S. that he met his wife of 60 years, Carmela. He went in the labor trade and worked for Fred DeRoma & Sons (Roslindale) for many years. Eventually, he and his brother (Carmine) began their own company, known as "Iarrobino Bros., Inc." and ran a successful contracting company. After Carmine retired, Gus started his own business as "Gus Iarrobino & Sons, Inc." and this company thrived until he retired in 1992. Gus was an avid gardener, loving the outdoors and taking care of his lawn and garden. He traveled with his children and grandchildren on many trips. One of his last trips was to his Italy in 2013, where he spent time visiting his hometown with his children and grandchildren. Nothing meant more to him than his family. He enjoyed Sunday dinners with his children and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 30th at 9:00 AM at the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St., NORWOOD, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Timothy Church, 650 Nichols St., Norwood. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Norwood. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gus’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701 or to the American Red Cross, PO Box 37839, Boone, IA 50037. The family would also greatly appreciate blood or platelet donation to the American Red Cross.
