

Barbara Agnes (Canavan) Curran, 87, a 62 year resident of Norwood, Tuesday, January 20, 2015. Born in Cranston, RI, Barbara was the daughter of the late Henry Ambrose and Theresa Agnes (Murray) Canavan. Barbara was the beloved wife of the late Martin B. Curran; the loving mother of the late Kevin M. Curran and his wife Debra of Norwood, Kathleen Curran McCrossan and her husband Stephen of Medfield, Richard A. Curran of Sudbury, Robert G. Curran of Norwood, Neil B. Curran of Canton, Christopher P. Curran and his wife Linda of Norwood, and David M. Curran and his wife Dawn of North Attleboro. Barbara was known as Shanna to her cherished grandchildren: Christopher, Kathryn, and Megan Curran, Daniel, Caroline, and Gregory McCrossan , Padraic and Maggie Curran, and Meara and Julia Curran. Barbara was the sister of the late Mary Canavan Marchand of Somerset, the late Richard Canavan of Lincoln, and the late Regina Canavan of Cranston. Barbara is survived by her brother-in-law, Thomas P. Curran of Norwood. Her many attentive nieces and nephews include the Marchands, Canavans, Turners, and Currans. A graduate of Saint Ann’s and Katharine Gibbs, Barbara worked as a secretary in the Internal Revenue Service in Providence before moving to Norwood to raise her family. She had a deep Catholic faith and was a devotee of St. Teresa of Avila. Her children and grandchildren were her life, and her legacy lives on in them. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 24, at 9:00 AM at the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St., NORWOOD, (781)-762-0174 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Timothy Church, Norwood. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, Norwood. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, January 23, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Barbara’s memory to The Christian Service Fund at St. Timothy Church, 650 Nichols St., Norwood, MA 02062.
