Catherine M. “Kay” (Jennings) Savage; of Norwood; retired teacher from Canton Public Schools, passed away on November 21, 2018, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was 87. Daughter of the late Henry and Mary (Genter) Jennings. Mrs. Savage was the beloved wife of the late James R. Savage; former Superintendent of Norwood Public Schools. She was the treasured mother of James R. Savage, Jr. of Wells, Maine; Stephen Savage of Norwood; Dr. Mary Savage Brown of Norwood, and Cathy Savage Eysie and mother-in-law of John Eysie of Dover, MA.

Mrs. Savage was the loving grandmother of Jayme Brown Buonocore, Megan Brown, Kelli Brown; James R. Savage, III, Erica Savage; as well as Ryan Eysie and Tori Eysie. Mrs. Savage was the sister of the late Rev. Henry (Skip) Jennings and Mr. Louis Jennings Sr. and his late wife Carol Jennings. She was the aunt of Louis, Christine, Michelle, and Maureen Jennings.

Mrs. Savage, or “Kay,” as she was known to her loved ones, had a witty personality and a curious mind. She was born and raised in Boston and excelled in academics at Girls’ Latin School and then at Emmanuel College. Truly a woman ahead of her time, Kay opted to bypass the traditional routes for women in the 1950's and instead pursued a career, receiving a Master’s Degree in History from Boston College in 1953. Mrs. Savage began her teaching career in Boston before eventually teaching English at the Galvin Middle School in Canton. While there, Mrs. Savage was known for her dramatic readings and studies of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol and Old Yeller. She also directed musical theater and coached the girls’ tennis team. Mrs. Savage was a woman of many interests and talents, including gardening and completing crosswords - in pen!

An avid tennis player and golfer, she spent many winters in Florida with her favorite snowbirds from Norwood. While in Florida, she choreographed elaborate dances and performed with friends in variety shows. Mrs. Savage will be dearly missed by her family and friends, who will remember her dynamic and adventurous spirit, as well as her commitment to always put her family first.

All friends are kindly invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held in St. Timothy Church, 650 Nichols Street, Norwood SATURDAY, November 24th at 10:30AM. Immediately following mass Kay’s committal service will be held in Highland Cemetery, Norwood.
