Donald C. Johnson

Donald C. Johnson, age 76, of Norwood, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. Born in Boston, MA, he was the son of the late Francis Johnson and Esther (Caldwell) Johnson, and brother of Ann Smith and her husband Philip J. Smith.

Don was Judy’s best friend and husband. From youthful adventures on the Cape to falling deeply in love and building a family, their bond was like no other.

As a father to Mandy, Chris, and Mallory, Dad was the ultimate cheerleader and encouraged his children to pursue all of their dreams. Dad was so happy to welcome Adam and Gina-Marie to the family. He loved his children fiercely.

Known as Papa to his grandchildren, he was quick to cry tears of joy – his love for them so deep that he was moved beyond words for the simplest of reasons. Alex, Nate, Adrianna, Vivian, and Estelle each had unique relationships with their Papa and shared many laughs and adventures with him.

Don was quite the character, as friends will attest. His quick wit and warmth bought him many a write in vote for town elections. He was kind to all and loved to make people smile and laugh. His Halloween costumes were highly anticipated around Crestwood Circle for decades – Judy’s creations were incredible and the kids were thrilled to have the coolest Dad ever. There will never be anyone like Don, we were so lucky to have him.

Donald is also loved by his three sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street, (Rt. 1A) NORWOOD on Friday, August 23, 2024 from 4-7PM. Interment will be held at Newton Cemetery, 791 Walnut Street, Newton at a date to be determined.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Donald’s memory to the Animal Rescue League of Boston.
