Frederick Joseph Barrett, 91, of Dedham, formerly of Norwood, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2021. Born October 12, 1929 in Somerville to Patrick and Julia (Linskey) Barrett. They went on to raise Frederick in Brookline.

Frederick proudly served as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician “Mineman” in the U.S. Navy. During his service he was awarded a National Defense Service Medal. After proudly serving his country he went on to attend Northeastern where he obtained a bachelor degree in Civil Engineering, all while starting to raise a family with his beloved late wife Alice (Lawlor) Barrett.

Although Frederick was a quiet person he had quite a sense of humor and could get along with anyone. He loved sports, especially watching the Boston Bruins play. When he was not watching sports, you could find him on the courts playing tennis until the age of 80. Frederick also had a passion for reading, particularly anything related to military and war history.

Frederick is survived by his loving children, Debbie and her husband Paul of Randolph, Kathy and her husband Steven of Franklin, and Patrick and his wife Sheri of Foxboro; his 8 adored grandchildren; and his 5 cherished great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 12th from 4pm to 8pm at Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street, Norwood. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Timothy Church, Norwood on Thursday, May 13th with interment to follow at Highland Cemetery, Norwood.

Kathy and family. I was sad to read of your dad's passing. Such great memories of your mom and dad at OCC (when we were on Savin Ave). They were full of fun and laughter. We all wanted to wait on them!! Such a wonderful couple.

Dear family, sorry to learn of Fred's passing. He and I worked together for nearly 30. During that time we played a lot of tennis and enjoyed many hours of work and social time together please accept my deepest sympathy at this time.
