Gail Patricia Roden, 72, entered the gates of heaven on July 21, 2026, in Westwood, Massachusetts, after a long journey with dementia.
Gail was born to James and Jane (Evans) Roden on May 30, 1954, in Queens, New York. She graduated with honors from Saint Mary's High School, in Manhasset, in 1972 and attended Villanova University, where she graduated magna cum laude, with a degree in nursing, in 1976. She was a dedicated nurse for over 40 years, focusing on neonatal care at Montefiore Einstein and Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx. During that time, she obtained her master's degree from Pace University and later became a certified nurse practitioner. Gail also thrived as a beloved in-home nurse for disabled house-bound pediatric patients, with multiple agencies, including J&D Ultracare. As an expert in neonatal care, she trained interns as part of the faculty of Columbia University Medical School.
Gail is survived by her loving husband, Sean Smith; and three children, Margaret (Robert) Needham, Patrick Smith, and Kathleen (Kurt) Rever; as well as her siblings, Anne, Lynn, and James. Gail is also survived by five beloved grandchildren: Adelaide, Shannon, Teagan, Caroline, and Declan.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in The Church of Saint Aidan, 505 Willis Ave., WILLISTON PARK, NEW YORK, on Tuesday August 4, 2026, at 11:15am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gail's memory to the labor and delivery department of Children's Hospital at Montefiore Einstein, or to the Newborn Nursery at Jacobi Medical Center. Gail will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, wife, and friend; as well as a giving individual, who dedicated her life to caring for those who could not care for themselves.
Arrangements are in the care of Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street, Norwood.
