Mastrobattista, Gino passed away on December 15, 2018 of cancer. Gino was the beloved companion of Dorothy Hennessey of Canton, and devoted father of the late Michael G. Mastrobattista, Karen D. Curran and her late husband Christopher Curran of Norwood, and Ronald E. Mastrobattista of Norwood. Gino was also the cherished grandfather of Christopher J. Curran and his wife Michaela, Michael G. Curran and his wife Elena, and Michelle Mastrobattista. He was also the proud great grandfather of Patrick and Maggie. Brother of the late Anthony Mastrobattista, he is survived by many loving nephews and nieces.
Son of Italian immigrants, Gino grew up on Linwood Square in Roxbury and graduated from Boston Technical High School where he was known as “Kid Mastro” and played baseball. As a young boy he helped by working in the family business, Battista’s Bakery. He graduated Northeastern University in 1959 and became a Professional Engineer. Gino worked as a civil and structural engineer for over forty six years at Charles T. Main and completed such projects as UMass Boston. Recently he was a Vice President at Cirees, Inc. He loved fishing, boating and taught navigation for many years. He was also an avid golfer. At home, he loved to tinker, could fix anything and owned every tool available to man. Gino was happiest on the ocean.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 20th at 9:00am from the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street (Rte. 1A), Norwood, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at St. Denis Church, Westwood. Interment will follow the Mass in New Westwood Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 4:00-7:00pm at the funeral home.
