Jean P. (Welch) Dion

Beloved wife of the late Normand D. Dion Sr. of Norwood. Loving mother of Suzanne Lowe and her husband Kevin of Norwood, Normand David Dion Jr. of Norwood, Janine Rasmussen and her husband Richard of Myrtle Beach, Danielle Elliott and her husband James of Norton, and Andre Dion and his wife Jeannine of South Carolina. Cherished grandmother of 21 grandchildren 5 great grandchildren. Dear sister of Elizabeth Foster of Walpole, the late Claire Songin and her husband Walter Songin of Walpole, the late Mary Ellen Lloyd and her husband Thomas Lloyd of Norwood, and the late Brenda Welch of Norwood. Jean was also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Jean was the daughter of the late John P. and Ellen J. (Regan) Welch. She was a proud graduate of Norwood High School, Class of 1945.

Jean was a very active member of the Emblem Club. She joined in 1975, and was a member until it disbanded. She was the treasurer for many, many years. Jean enjoyed spending time on beaches from Cape Cod to the Caribbean. She took many cruises and other adventures even into the later years of her life. She was an avid bingo player where she made lifelong friendships with fellow bingo enthusiasts. Books were not hard to find in Jean’s bedroom as they were another joy in her life. Backyard cookouts and pool parties were some of Jean’s happiest memories with her family. It would not have been a pool party on Elliot St. without Jean’s famous potato salad and Manhattan clam chowder. Her gift of loving children spread through extended family. She took care of not only her own children and grandchildren, but cared for her nieces and nephews as if they were her own. Cinnamon toast cut into triangles with ginger ale will never be the same without her.

Services from the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street (Rt. 1A), NORWOOD on Tuesday February 28, 2023 at 10:00 AM. Funeral Mass in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 547 Washington Street, Norwood at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held in the Funeral Home on Monday from 4:00-8:00 PM. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery, 320 Winter Street, Norwood.
