Joan T. Hilchey

Joan T. (Hatlas) Hilchey of Norwood and East Falmouth, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 11, 2026 at the Milford Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. She was 91.

Born in North Chelmsford, she was the daughter of the late John and Agatha (Bennett) Hatlas. Joan cherished her family above all else. She was the beloved wife of the late Lester Hilchey, and the devoted mother of Susan and her husband William Shelley of Medway, Richard Hilchey and his wife Karen of The Woodlands, TX, the late Stephen Hilchey, and his surviving wife, Lori Azzara of Randolph. Joan was the proud grandmother of Jacquelyn McMahon and her husband Timothy, Christine Dubois and her husband Jeremy, Amanda Contre and her husband Christopher, Christopher Hilchey and his wife Heather, Jennifer Hilchey, and her great-grandchildren, Allison, Ryan, Nolan, Benjamin, Connor, and Camden who held a very special place in her heart and brought her endless joy, laughter, and love. She treasured every moment spent with them. Her love for them was unconditional, and the memories they shared will forever be treasured by those who knew how deeply she cared for her family. Her legacy of love will live on through the generations she leaves behind.

Joan was a graduate of Winthrop High School. She was a long-time resident of Norwood and spent summers in East Falmouth where she enjoyed hosting her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joan was member of St, Timothy's Parish for 62 years, and sang in a choir with a group of her close friends. Joan stayed active into her later years through tennis and then water aerobics. Her vibrant personality, love for life, and timeless sense of style were all part of what made her so special and memorable to those who knew and loved her.

Visiting Hours will be held in the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street (Rte. 1A) NORWOOD on Friday October 16, from 4-7 PM, and again on Saturday beginning at 9:30 AM, prior to the Funeral Mass which will be celebrated in St. Timothy's Parish, 650 Nichols Street, Norwood at 10:30. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery, Norwood.
