John A. Davis, age 66, of Norwood, July 17, 2012, in Norwood surrounded by his family. John was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts, on September 20, 1945, the son of Elaine (Dodge), of Hanover and the late Jack Davis.

John had a very competitive personality. He loved playing Texas hold’em card games on Saturday nights with his family. He was an avid golfer and spent much of his free time on the golf course. He was also passionate about cooking and he spent the bulk of his working career as an executive chef, managing many restaurant establishments over the years in Massachusetts, Louisiana, and Las Vegas.

Besides his mother, John is survived by his wife, Barbara (Coletta) Davis of Norwood, his children, Laurie J. and her husband John Madore of Carver, Jodi Gainor of New Hampshire, Christine and her husband Kenneth Hilchey of Plymouth, and Kari and her husband Jason Szumylo of Easton, sisters, Jackie and her husband Larry Rudolph of Oklahoma, Debra and her husband Roger Miller of Marshfield, and Cindy and her husband Wayne Miller of Carver, grandchildren, John, Jr. and Cory Madore, Cody, Jacob and Sabrina Gainor, Kenneth and Maureen Hilchey, Kyle, Emily, Evan, and Cayden Szumylo, a great granddaughter, Emma Morganelli, his father-in-law, Lawrence Coletta of Norwood, a sister-in-law, Carol Coletta, of Kingston, a brother-in-law, Steven Coletta and his wife Suzanne of Mansfield. He was the son-in-law of the late Florence (Hughes) Coletta and also leaves his former wife, Linda (Edmondson) Davis, of Oregon, former son-in-law, John Gainor of New Hampshire, many nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Shelly.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 20, at 12 PM at Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St., (Rt. 1A) NORWOOD. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. The family will receive visitors at the Funeral Home from 10 AM to 12 PM, prior to the service on Friday.

Barbara and family, David and I are so saddened to hear about John. I was unaware of the early hour of the wake, and did intend to make it tonight after work. John was a wonderful neighbor and we will miss seeing him and Shelly out on their little walks. Our deepest and sincerest condolences. John was the nicest man and we will miss him.
