John Geraghty

John "Jack" Geraghty, of Norwood, formerly of South Boston, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026, at AccentCare Hospice Center at the age of 89.

He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (Arnold) Geraghty and the devoted father of Judith Burke and her husband, Kevin, of Hingham; Jack Geraghty and his wife, Karen, of Stoneham; Maryellen Weiss of Norwood; James Geraghty of Norwood; Denise Kelly and her husband, Ed, of Norwood; and Paul Geraghty of Norwood. He was the cherished grandfather of seven grandchildren and proud great-grandfather of four great-grandchildren. Jack is also survived by his sisters, Carol Geraghty of Randolph and Elinor Harold of Hingham. He was the loving son of the late John and Helen (Lynch) Geraghty of Weymouth and the brother of the late Joan Roy and Barbara Savola of Plymouth.

Jack grew up in South Boston, a place he always considered home, even after spending most of his life in Norwood. He graduated from South Boston High School, where he excelled in track and field, and was especially proud of his induction into the South Boston Hall of Fame for football. He went on to play football at Boston College before beginning his career as a lineman with Edison. Later, he served as a Court Officer with the Supreme Judicial Court in Boston for many years before retiring.

Jack loved sharing stories of his trips to Ireland and could often be found playing Irish music for anyone willing to listen. A devoted sports fan, he never missed a Patriots or Boston College football game and would be glued to the television whenever they were on. Above all, he treasured the simple pleasures in life, especially taking long drives with Dorothy and spending time with the family he loved so dearly.

Services will be held from the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street (Rt. 1A) NORWOOD on Monday, July 27, 2026 at 9:30 AM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Denis Church, 157 Washington Street, Westwood at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery, Norwood.
