

Mr. McDonough was a decorated World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Army and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service with over 30 years of service as a letter carrier.
Beloved husband of the late Rita (Sheehan) McDonough; loving father of Elizabeth Fitzmaurice and her husband Michael of Foxboro, Jeremy Sheehan and his wife Julie of Stoughton and the late Joseph W. McDonough, Jr.; cherished grandfather of Francesca Tramboulakis, Jonathan Marcantonio, Kevin Fitzmaurice, Thomas Fitzmaurice and his fiancé Stephanie Myles, Meaghan McDonough and Steven Fitzmaurice; proud great-grandfather of Isabella and Alex Tramboulakis; son of the late Joseph E and Helen A (Harden) McDonough; brother of the late Henry and Charles McDonough and Anne Dolan. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Uncle Joe especially enjoyed playing cribbage and cherished the games with Philip and Patty.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 7th at 9:30am from the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street (Rte. 1A), Norwood, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 547 Washington Street, Norwood. Interment with military honors will follow the Mass in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4:00-7:00pm at the funeral home.
