

MCGRATH, Leo E, 90, formerly of Norwood and Attleboro, and more recently Franklin, on Thursday, August 22, at the Maples Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Wrentham, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Alice Mary (McCarty) of Franklin. The loving father of Mary Ellen and her husband, Jean-Paul Rivet of Harrisville, RI, Susan and her husband, Wesley Goodwin of N. Attleboro, Janet and her husband, William Walsh of Franklin, John Leo McGrath and his wife Carolee of Wilbraham; cherished grandfather of Christopher Rivet of VT, Wesley and Colin Goodwin of N. Attleboro, Colleen Walsh of Franklin, and Jack, Madison, Michael, Mary Kathryn and Joseph McGrath of Wilbraham; the dear brother of Mary and John McGrath and Ann and her husband Julian Demeo, all of Hudson; and brother-in-law of Charles McCarty and his wife Maggie of SC, and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Born in Boston on July 16, 1923, the son of the late John L. McGrath and Annie J. (Clark), he graduated from Boston Latin High School and held a B.A. from Boston College, Class of 1945. He served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy’s amphibious forces of the Pacific Fleet during WWII. Leo was a contract administrator/senior engineer in the construction industry and retired from HNTB Corporation in Boston. He was a Golden Eagle (over 50 year alumni) of Boston College and was very active in its Alumni Association. He was a member of the Society of American Military Engineers and held various positions including Boston Chapter President. He was also a member of St. Timothy Church, Norwood, St. Mark Church, N. Attleboro, the Knights of Columbus and American Legion, Norwood. Leo’s funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 27, at 9 a.m. from the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street (Rte. 1A), NORWOOD, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Timothy Church, 650 Nichols St., Norwood. Interment will follow in Holyhood Cemetery, Brookline. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Monday, August 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
