Margaret M. McGuire Kates

She was the daughter of the late Martin J. and Annie I. (Mercer) McGuire; beloved wife of William J. Kates; loving mother of William J. Kates, Jr. of Marshfield, Amy McGuire Kates of Cotuit, Janet M. Murphy of Plymouth, Gerard J. Kates of Attleboro, Kenneth F. Kates of Greenwich, CT, James R. Kates of North Hampton, NH, and the late Thomas J. Kates and Joseph M. Kates. Margaret is also survived by 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A 54 year resident of Norwood, Margaret was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker. She was blessed to have had a long life, a loving marriage of 64 years and was proud to see her eight children graduate from college. Margaret had a compassionate and willing spirit of volunteerism. With her open heart and listening ear, she built a large network of lifelong friends and acquaintances.

Visiting hours will be held at the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St., (Rt. 1A) NORWOOD, on Thursday, April 8th from 4:00-8:00pm. Funeral from the Gillooly Funeral Home will be on Friday, April 9th at 9AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Timothy Church, 650 Nichols Street, Norwood at 10AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Interment will follow the Mass in Blue Hills Cemetery, Braintree.
