Margueritte Lucy (del’Etoile) Conley, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, peacefully passed away on May 14th, 2024 in Norwood, Massachusetts, at the age of 83.
Margueritte was born in 1940, in Norwood and grew up in Westwood, Massachusetts. She graduated from Westwood High School in 1958 and attended the Peabody School in Norwood after high school, studying Home Economics. In 1960, she married the love of her life, James Patrick Conley, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, laughter, travel, and countless cherished memories while raising six children together.
Margueritte’s greatest joy in life was her family whom she loved very much. She is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, James and her children; James Patrick and his wife MariElena Conley of Norwood Massachusetts, Kathleen Ann and her husband Jeffrey Perryman of Taunton, Massachusetts,
Jane Ellen and her husband Kevin Perno of Bellingham, Massachusetts, Kevin Michael and his wife Karen of Wayne, Maine and Marjorie Lynn and her husband Charles Baker of Hopkinton, Massachusetts.
She is also survived by 10 grandchildren James Patrick Conley, Ashley Maya Conley, Samantha Emily Cohen, Sabrina Marie Cohen, Sophia Noel Cohen, John Michael Boutilier, Jayme Lynn Boutilier, Christopher Bryan Perno, Charles James Baker, William Hadley Baker; two great grandsons; Derek McCall and Beckett Bryan Perno; and four sisters; Georgian A. Gallucci of Putnam Valley, New York, Nancy L. Baldwin of Rochester, New York, Diana M. Bennett of Edison, New Jersey, and Gertrude M., Atkinson of Brownfield Maine.
Margueritte is predeceased by her son William Charles Conley, her sister Yvonne del’Etoile, and her parents Leon V. del’Etoile and Catherine Perkins (West) del’Etoile.
Others left to cherish Margueritte’s memory are her many nieces and nephews, cousins, James’ extended family, and many friends.
In addition to raising her family, Margueritte retired from the Town of Norwood after 30 years of dedicated service, where she was the Cafeteria Manager for the Norwood High School. While she worked other jobs and countless volunteering roles, it was the work at Norwood High School that brought her such joy. It was here where she was able to have a career doing what she loved … cooking, baking, and keeping an eye on the kids!
When Margueritte wasn’t working, she was traveling with her husband, crafting, antiquing, gardening, baking, canning vegetables, making preserves, and throwing a party for ANY reason she could make up. It was not uncommon for Margueritte to cook a meal for 25-50 people without batting an eyelash. In addition to these parties, Margueritte celebrated EVERYTHING, the big accomplishments, the small moments, the great milestones.
Margueritte and James’, “happy place” was Brownfield Maine where they resided seasonally. They would make the three hour trek, holding hands and singing country songs all the way to “Grammy’s House in the Woods.”
She was also known to be the most kind and compassionate caregiver. She cared for countless aging relatives and “adopted” and cared for numerous others in need. If there was an individual that did not have the benefit of family or caregivers, she brought them into our family and cared for them as her own. She provided a sense of family and community that only she could create … and she taught all of her children to do the same.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Services from the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street (Rt. 1A) NORWOOD on Tuesday May 21, at 10 AM.
