Mary J. Galvin of Norwood passed away peacefully in her home on January 27, 2021 at the age of 96. Beloved wife of the late Donald “Bud” Galvin. Cherished daughter of the late Herbert and Mary Mathis. Survived by her loving family, Maria and her husband Joseph O’Sullivan of Norwood, Kevin O’Sullivan of the North End, Kelly O’Sullivan of Roslindale, and Kyle and his wife Lindsay O’Sullivan and their two sons, Joe and Jack of Walpole.
Born and raised in Boston, Mary was a graduate of Mission High and a lifelong supporter of the Mission Church. Mary worked for the Boston Housing Authority starting at the age of 17. She worked her way up the ladder and was the manager of the Maryellen McCormack Housing Development in South Boston for many years. She was also a member of IATSE Local 775 for decades and her love for the Boston Ballet was unmatched. Her husband Bud was a stage hand and together they traveled the world with the Boston Symphony Orchestra along with many dear friends. In her later years, Mary experienced much joy watching Kyle, Kelly, and Kevin grow up and being part of their lives. Mary was lovingly known throughout the town of Norwood and loved to “go for a bite and a cocktail” after her standing Friday afternoon hair appointment. A Funeral Mass will be held at The Mission Church in Roxbury on Wednesday February 3rd at 10 AM. Please check with the church for COVID protocols. The burial will be held privately. Anyone wishing to remember Mary, may make a donation to the St. Jude Hospital in her memory.
