Mirdza “Jackie” Basile, 87, passed away peacefully at her home on February 2, 2021 with her family by her side.

She was born in the country of Latvia to Karlis and Alma (Sturis) Lincis. Jackie was the second of their three children. She grew up on a farm with her sister Erna (Lincis) Strelis and brother Andris Lincis. During the latter part of WWII they left their home to get away from the war and come to America. Along the way, they ended up in DP Camps but eventually went to Germany. There they stayed for five years before coming to the United States where they became citizens.

Jackie was the loving wife to the late Gene “Joe” Basile. The couple lived in Roslindale for a few years before moving to Norwood where they raised their nine children.

She leaves behind: Linda and her husband Kevin Moriarty, Joseph, Christopher and his wife Deborah Ryan, Jean, Marjorie, Marie, Rocky, Laura and her husband Brian Olson, and Barbara and her husband Michael Lawrie. She had fourteen grandchildren; Jennifer, Melissa, Kevin, Rocky, Lija, Darius, Samantha, Darryl, Andrea, Elizabeth, Jake, Katherine, Luke, and Maximillian, and seven great-grandchildren; Isaiah, Connor, Riley, Cooper, Elijah, Penelope and Bennett. She also leaves behind her four nieces; Rita, Rosemarie, Silvia and Dorothy, a nephew John and extended family.

While raising her family, Jackie took night courses to learn bookkeeping/accounting so she could assist with all the finances associated with her husband’s tile business. She worked various jobs in her lifetime and retired from N&D Insurance Company. She was a parishioner of St. Denis Church where she was a member of the Women’s Group. Jackie participated in morning masses followed by coffee with friends. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends including trips to Alaska and Italy. She enjoyed the arts; going to musicals, the POPs, the theatre and the Boston Ballet. She enjoyed gardening, bowling, cooking, having family gatherings and most importantly her children. Jackie especially enjoyed being a grandmother.

Funeral services and burial at Highland Cemetery in Norwood will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jackie’s memory to The Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown MA, 02472, or to Accent Care Hospice, 30 Perwal St., 1st Floor, Westwood, MA 02090.

Auntie Jackie was the only aunt I, and my sister & brother, ever knew and in addition to being my aunt, she was also my Godmother. So many wonderful memories flood my mind when I think of her and 108 Ellis Ave. especially the spaghetti and meatball dinners we had at her house. She juggled so many balls (and kids!) but always had that big, beautiful smile on her face when her family was gathered for a celebration. My heart hurts when I think of her passing....the last of the Lincis family. Though she has gone home to be with Uncle Joe and the rest of her original family, something that is not gone are the beautiful memories of a warm, loving woman.
Peace be with you Auntie Jackie. With love....Rita

Dear Basile Cousins,
May your Mom rest in peace and eternally be reunited with your Dad, Grandma and Grandpa, her sister, (Erna), and brother, (Andris)!

I will forever remember what a treat it was for us Strelis cousins to go to your house in Norwood and be served your Mom's lasagna and hang out with the cousins.

Your Mom will forever live in your hearts. I wish you perfect peace and everlasting love! Your cousin, Silvia
