McCAFFERTY, Patricia “Pat” (Perry) of Westwood, passed away peacefully at age 94, on February 9, surrounded by her loving family. Pat was the loving daughter of the late Mary R. (Noonan) Perry, and the devoted wife of the late John J. McCafferty for 52 years before his passing in 2000.
Pat was an amazing mother who gave endlessly of herself. She was fun to be around, had a great sense of humor, was kind, compassionate, selfless and incredibly brave. She enjoyed a good book or movie, playing bridge, and had a great love for learning. Travel was one of Pat’s great joys and every journey was an adventure. Museums, historic sites, winding streets—nothing escaped her curiosity.
Cape Cod held a special place in her heart. It was there that Pat and John created a home where family and friends gathered. Some of her most treasured memories were there— countless days on the golf course, barbeques in the backyard, and a house that was always full. Pat was an avid golfer and longtime member of Woodland Golf Club in Newton, as well as a former member of Oyster Harbors in Osterville.
Pat was the loving mother of six children: John, Jr. (Maureen), Patricia Suslo, Susan McCafferty (Robert Huntington), Diane McCafferty (David Stern), James McCafferty, and Karen McCafferty. She leaves behind seven wonderful grandchildren: Meaghan Levasseur (Eric), Sheridan O’Donoghue (Phillip), Jennifer Suslo, Ashley and Aidan Huntington, and Dylan and Alana Stern, and four great-grandchildren, Clare and Ryan Levasseur, and Colin and Jamie O’Donoghue.
She is survived by her loving sisters, Pauline DiSangro (John), Nancy Spognardi (Andrew), and Susan McCarthy (late Ronald), as well as many nieces and nephews who knew her affectionately as “Auntie Pat.” She was predeceased by her five brothers—George, Robert, Richard, David, and Edward Perry—each of whom remained close to her heart throughout her life.
Pat will be remembered for her love and dedication to her family and will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Visiting Hours in the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street (Rt. 1A) NORWOOD on Friday, February 13 from 4-8 PM. Pat's funeral will begin from the Funeral Home on Saturday February 14, at 9:30 AM with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in St. Timothy’s Church, Norwood, at 10:30. Interment will follow the Mass at New Westwood Cemetery, Westwood.
