CARLEY, Paul E. of Westwood, MA, officially gave up golf on November 1, 2017. Born on April 28, 1930 to Grace and Francis Carley of Allston, MA. Predeceased by wife Kathleen (King) in 2000, daughter Maura in 2001, and companion Virginia Ilfeld in 2016. Survived by sons Paul (Rockland), Peter and wife Bernice (South Hadley), and daughter Karen and partner Lisa Petraglia (Granby), step-children Nancy Hamilton (Pembroke) and Michael Ilfeld (North Carolina), grandchildren Danielle, Caitlin, Paul Jr, Kevin and Christopher, as well as many nieces and nephews. Paul was fortunate to have had two careers in life. He spent 28 years as a bus and trolley driver for the MBTA, and another 27 years driving golf balls at Lost Brook Golf Course in Norwood. His appetite for life was as big as he was. He loved competition and thought every game deserved a wager to keep it interesting, especially golf and cards. He looked for opportunities to be helpful to friends and neighbors. He served in the Army during the Korean War. A celebration of Paul's life will be held from 1 to 4pm on Sunday, November 12th, at Gillooly Funeral Home in Norwood. Interment will be private and held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Paul’s memory may be made to Hospice / Fisher House of Amherst, MA.
