

Susan M. Mulligan, of Norwood passed away at her home on Monday May 4, 2026, she was 68.
Born in West Nyack, New York, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence J. and Mary T. (Kearney) Mulligan. Susan was a graduate of Mt. Anthony Union High School in Bennington, Vermont with the class of 1976, and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from U-Mass Amherst. Susan worked for many years as a Staff Accountant with King, McNamara, Moriarty in Norwood.
Susan was the devoted mother of Jillian Escobar of Portland, Maine, Matthew Escobar of Norwood, and Elizabeth Escobar of Quincy. She was the beloved sister of Katherine “Kate” Bird, Paul Mulligan, Margaret “Peg” Mulligan, Edward “Ned” Mulligan, Martha Mulligan, Loretta Shaw, and the late Theresa Mulligan. Susan was affectionately known by her many nieces, nephews, and their children as “Aunt Susie.” She loved hosting her large extended family at her home for Thanksgiving and summer pool days.
Though Susan spent much of her adult life in Norwood, she considered Bennington, Vermont her home. She was an athlete through high school and college, running cross-country and track, and participated in cross-country skiing and field hockey as well. Susan still holds the Girls’ Track Record for the 880-yard at MAU. She was Vermont’s Athlete of the Month in 1976 and was featured in Vermont Life Magazine in the Spring 1977 issue for her impact on female athletics.
Susan loved spending time with her 3 children and beloved cockapoo Angus. She enjoyed time outside hiking, biking, and kayaking as well as lake weekends, trips to Cape Cod, and wineries with her many close friends and family. She also cherished her slow mornings with her coffee and crosswords or reading in her sunroom.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street (Rte. 1A) NORWOOD on Tuesday May 12, 2026 from 4-7 PM. All other services and Interment are private.
