Calvert Knorr Johnson Jr.

Known as both Cal and Bud, he was the beloved father of Jill Chasson (Mike Chasson) and Amy Johnson (Rob Landolfi) and cherished grandfather of Alex and Caroline Chasson. He is also survived by Penelope Johnson, mother of Jill and Amy, and by his loving nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Calvert and Mary Bernardine “Bernie” Johnson, sister Sara “Sally” J. Puwalski, and cherished aunt Miriam “Mimi” Senat.

Cal was a Baltimore City native and a proud graduate of Baltimore City College, Gettysburg College, and the University of Baltimore. He lettered in swimming and lacrosse at City and swimming at Gettysburg, where he was also a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.

As his daughters joined swim teams at the Padonia Park Club, Towson YMCA, and North Baltimore Aquatic Club, Cal cheered them on from the stands, served as a volunteer timer on deck, and eventually became a certified official and starter.

Cal worked as an auditor at the former Baltimore Gas & Electric for more than 30 years before retiring in 1995, after which he worked summers at the Padonia Park Club for 20 years on the landscaping crew and as an accountant. While at BG&E, Cal was a regular blood donor, earning recognition for donating 11 gallons over the course of more than 80 visits.

Cal was an avid Ravens fan, though it was hard to find a sport he did not enjoy watching. He also loved dogs and could crack puns and Dad Jokes with the best of them.

A celebration of Cal’s life will be held on a future date. Inurnment will be at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.
