Clara Ann Potter was born February 6, 1920 in Celina, OH to the late Lewis Dale Jennings and Lois Wealthy Nelson. She received her B.S. degree in education from the Ohio State University, and was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority while there. She taught school at St. Mary's in OH before she married her husband, Thomas Tully Potter on September 18, 1945.
Mrs. Potter was always active in her church. She was a member of the Suzanna Wesley Circle at Southern Pines U.M. Church in Southern Pines, NC and helped to mentor children at the church. She hepled during Vacation Bible School and weekly childrens programs at the church as well. Mrs. Potter helped at the Whispering Pines Thrift Shop and both she and her husband served as mentors at the Southern Pines Elementary and Middle Schools. She was well know in church for her delicious homemade lemon meringue pie and cookies.
Clara and her husband moved to Whispering Pines, NC in the early 1980s. Prior to that they lived in Columbus, OH and Bucyrus, OH, where she was active in Epworth U.M. Church and various community projects. She is survived by one son, Thomas Craig Potter and his wife Carolyn P. Potter of Bel Air, MD, two daughters Susan Lois Potter of Maryville, TN and Sarah Ann Potter of Columbus, OH; four grandchildren Michelle Lynn Chrisakis, Kimberly Ann Potter, Michele Jennifer Fielder and Melanie Amanda Stutzman; five great grandchildren Mia Jane Chrisakis, April Crosby, D.J. Fielder, John David Stutzman, IV, and Carolyn Stutzman; one great great grandchild Maddie Crosby. She is pre-deceased by her parents and her husband Thomas Tully Potter and her infant daughter marcia Ann Potter.
