Hey, Mama.  Just want you know how proud I am - will forever be - to have you as my mother, my teacher, my friend, etc.  As the girls continue to grow, what you have instilled in me, has allowed for me to know exactly what to do in each situation.  It is so crazy to see how everything from your childhood comes to together and makes sense once you have kids.  I will forever feel cheated that you and Charles were taken from us so soon, but I know that you would expect us to trust God’s plan, so I do.  Your death has brought me even closer to him.  I know every mom does the best they can what their personal abilities, but I KNOW that the boys and I truly lucky to have the best of the best….you embody everything a mom should be.  Because of you, I feel empowered as a Mother.  The conviction I have is immeasurable.  Even more so with the way the world is, I feel honored to raise the girls as you have raised the boys and me.  We are so, so lucky.  I miss and love you so much.Always & Forever.

Aunt Debbie and Uncle Wade sent us this picture of you today.  You are absolutely beautiful, Mom.  It made me cry and smile at the same time....that feeling of "home" when I look at you.  I miss you so, so much, Mom.  Always & Forever.

Read another article about a daughter who lost her Mom, her best friend.  So many of the same feelings are felt by all motherless-daughters. One of my favorite lines was; “it’s like hoping that you’ve turned out to be every bit like her.”

A fun scientific fact that I have recently learned; when Josie was carrying you, she was also “carrying” me.....your eggs are developed while you were growing inside of Josie. So, while pregnant with me, the same is true for Gianna and Antonia. How crazy is that?! Each time I see this little blurb floating around, it makes me smile.

On Easter, I was telling all of the girls that I know you are looking down on your family and are so proud of what you have created; a tight family bond that will never be broken. I know you are smiling.

When I look in the mirror, I see you. When I listen back on my voice, I hear you. When I need you, I feel you. I am you, and honored to be. When I look at the girls, I am comforted by knowing that you will never truly be gone.

you can imagine that it will take some time for me handle things without you.  As you have always said about the way that you disciplined/raised us; “I need to know that when I leave this earth, my children can survive without me; that’s my job.”  Although we are “surviving,” you have to know that it is so hard to live without you.  I know that you would want us to stop asking questions, to stop wondering why it has happened this way….there is a reason, everything has an order.  Always & Forever my beautiful Mother. 

I miss you so much.  I still struggle with the loss of you and Charles.  I do not care what anyone thinks about it…it is what it is; it will never be easy.  As strong as you were for us, I know that you missed your bambino.  I remember crying to you about Charles and feeling so badly about it because I know you were hurting the most….you would always say, “I will handle my grief, my job is to be here for my children.”  Your strength is immeasurable, Mom.  You were always right about everyone and everything.  To this day, everyone still talks about your wisdom.  Your legacy, your children, will forever do right by you; our bond is unbreakable.  So many people say, “your mother raised such good kids.  The bond between you and is your brothers is solely her work.”  We will always uphold what you have instilled in us.  I look at Gianna and Antonia and I want to do right by them, I never want to fail them.  Everything that you have taught us goes through my head on a daily basis: “parenting is the hardest job that you will ever have; everything you do – and do not do – will affect them…you only get one shot at it.  I will never say ‘never not mine’…give me the information and I will investigate and then do what needs to be done. Everything is just a moment in time.”  The other day, Gianna said to me, “Hey, what are you doing in my room, Ma?  After laughing to myself, I saw in to my future and the teenage years. haha!  Little does she know, I will always have access to her room; if necessary, the door will come off of those hinges….haha!!  Diane-style 😊  You dig, research, and stay one step ahead of them to keep them safe, right?  I often cry to Rob about not being as strong as you, but I know that you are helping me to get there.  He says that I do not give myself enough credit, but I can only hope to eventually get there.  For 33 years of my life, I relied on you with every thought, every feeling, etc.…

Hi, Mom.  I know that you hear me, that you are there.  You and Charles are forever in our hearts.  Please keeping giving us signs.  Of course, I do not know how it all works, but I know that you are two of the most powerful/determined people that I know....keep trying!  I love and miss you so much.  Always & Forever.

As the four year make approaches, this still feels as surreal as the day that you passed.  You are our everything, Mom.   As you did with the loss of Charles, I try my very best to be grateful for the years that we did have.  We were lucky to have you through a difficult divorce, the loss of a sibling, our weddings, and the birth of our children.  Although I am struggling pretty badly with you not being here for the birth of Antonia, I know that Gianna's birth was what is was because you were not going to be here for much longer.....you helped prepare me for the next.  Every single day, I play your words/teachings in my head; I know that you would be telling me to be strong, just like you have raised me to be.  I jokingly tell Rob that God has given me two girls to give me some teenage mouth....what comes around, goes around! haha!! That's OK, though, at least I will have two best friends, two mini-me's :) On a much deeper level, though, they are extensions of you and I.  As a daughter, you emulate your Mom; I have your spirit, I am you.  As girls, my girls will do the same...you will never die, you will live on for many, many generations.  As your daughter, I feel so special to be able to carry you on, as the boys are carrying you on in their own ways.  Heather has always told me that you were preparing me, more than the boys, to handle things because I am you....it's true, and I only hope that I am not letting you down.  Nobody will ever be able to replace you, ever.  Always & Forever.

Good morning my beautiful Mother. I read a really good article the other day from the Motherless Daughters site...I sometimes find comfort in some of the articles. It felt like things that you would say to us kids...

"So, when bad things happen, we have to choose how we are going to handle them. We have to choose if we are going to let these things define us or if we are going to use them to help us grow. In my case, I live my life for the person who had to leave me behind. I fight everyday to get through and be the person that I know they would want from me. I live my life for the both of us. I survive, even when it's hard, because I can. Life didn't choose me. Life didn't take me. I get the choice of how I will live the rest of my time on this earth. I've been dealt a really crappy hand. There are days I catch myself feeling so bad for myself that this is my life. There are days where I don't know how much longer I can go on this way. But I have to, I have to fight, because no matter how hard this reality is and how badly I wish I could change it, I can't. Life had other plans." 

I still find myself occasionally waking up in the middle of the night in disbelief that you and Charles are no longer here; it is as if it has just happened...it's hard to explain that "feeling."  Your words are constantly playing in my head; I hear you all of the time..."let's go,  honey, shake it off; keep moving." You were our world, Mom.  I am so grateful that God gave me my baby girl...it excites me to be the Mother to her that you were to me...how much luckier can we be? I know you are doing everything in your power to continue to guide us...we are you, and you are us.  Always & Forever.

Good morning my beautiful Mother.  I miss you so much, Mom. You and Charles are my first and last thought of the day.  It will never be OK without you guys. I still struggle sometimes with the guilt I feel from laughing  because you guys should be here laughing, too.  Rob and the boys always say how you would not want that for us; I know that, but it's hard.  Since the day I was born, I have relied upon you for every thought, every feeling, every emotion, so "standing alone" has been really difficult; nobody could ever replace you.  More and more, I really feel like God gave me a little girl to be a mini you/me....it's just what I feel in my gut.  Of course, she has good qualities from Rob, but girls are their Moms! Somebody told me the other day that all of the kids will always know how their Nonni was because I am so much like their Nonni; that really hit me in the heart.  Although we all know that you are in a class of your own, I am honored to even be thought of in that way.  I was laughing to myself the other day because just like you and Josie, I always make sure that I have perfume on....guess who else has to wear her perfume? She mimics every single thing that I do...it all makes me smile :) Always & Forever.  I love you.

Watching the news last night, I cannot believe that it is the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was sitting at Parkville Middle when my sister called to tell me to turn on the news. I could not believe what I was seeing. Like so many, I was unsure of what to do at that point so I called Di-Di and asked her what to do. She said to stay at work because Jesse (who had just turned 1) was with her and she said that it was the safest place that he could be. I knew in my heart that there was no better place for him to be.  I trusted her completely because she was such a wonderful and caring person! Jesse just turned 16 & got his learner's permit and there have been so many times over the years where I would think to myself , I wish Di-Di could see him now. He was a difficult baby and I remember telling her to call me anytime if it got to much and she needed a break. Of course, she never called because she had a way with him that I am so grateful for because it made him into the person he is today. As he got older when the babies were napping, it would be their time and he always looked forward to when Charles or Patrick would come home so he could hang out with the Big Boys. Your family has made such a huge impact on our lives and I just wanted you to know how much Di-Di and Charles are missed. I think of your family a lot and cannot begin to image the loss that you feel.

Happy Mother's Day my beautiful Mother. This day will forever be bittersweet.  I am so grateful to be a Mom, but I do not have you here. You are my inspiration, my reason for working so hard at being the best Mom that I can be; after all, I was raised by the best! I really enjoyed my lunch with New Yorker this week; it felt so comforting.  Katie called her to ask a normal daughter-to-mother question, and it made me stop in my tracks; I can never, ever do that again. It was like a punch to the gut....I literally felt my stomach drop. I know that you are listening/guiding, but it will  never be enough to not have you and Charles here.  You deserved so much more in life, Mom, and I hate that I could not fix certain things for you.  I know, however, why you did certain things; your children were your life, and sometimes you just do what you have to do, right?  I love and miss you so much.  Always & Forever.

It definitely does, Mrs. Judy! They are lyrics to a song by Lauren Alaina; it's called "like my Mother does." I listen to it a few times a week :)  I also like "in my daughter's eyes," by Martina McBride....my Mom told me about that song when it first came out.  I am so grateful to carry on her legacy as her daughter and to then have my daughter be a mini-me, which is ultimately a mini-Diane :)  God always has a plan, huh?
