

On September 30, 2023, Edward James Springer passed away. He was the beloved husband of Judy Springer (nee Wieland); devoted father of Christopher M. Springer, wife Julie; Jennifer S. Connolly, husband Patrick; Peter E. Springer, wife Jennie; Paul J. Springer, wife Jaime; and Patricia R. Springer; and he was the loving grandfather of Logan and Landyn Connolly; Luke Springer; Lucy and Jake Springer; and Jack, Ellie and Grace Springer. Ed was the dear son of the late Joseph T. and Rose A. Springer (nee Sheckler) and the brother of Mae Byers, Joseph Springer, and the late Grace O’Byrne and Helen Byrne.
Born on August 21, 1943, Ed attended Most Blessed Sacrament Church and School in southwest Philadelphia. He graduated from West Catholic High School in 1961, where he had spent time as the editor of the yearbook. He received his undergraduate degree from LaSalle University, and then a master’s degree from Loyola University, Chicago and another from Johns Hopkins University. Ed began his career working for the Archdiocese of Baltimore, becoming their Director of Youth Ministry through 1983. He then became an agent and certified life underwriter for the New York Life Insurance Company, where he retired after 35 years of service.
Married to Judy for 53 years (8/8/1970), together they raised five wonderful children. Ed welcomed their spouses with open arms, cherished his eight beautiful grandchildren and always kept his family at the center of his life. He was the anchor of the Springer family and was loved by all. Ed was a man who was strongly devoted to his Catholic faith, serving others as Jesus did. He enjoyed being an active member of the Father Burggraff Council of the Knights of Columbus in Perry Hall and served as the recording secretary for two years. Ed was a loyal husband, father, grandfather and friend to many, and his legacy will live on through those who loved him.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Schimunek Funeral Home, Inc. 9705 Belair Road, Nottingham, MD 21236, on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, from 3:00-5:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at the St. Joseph (Fullerton) Catholic Church, 8420 Belair Road, Nottingham, MD 21236. Interment will follow at the St. Joseph’s Church Cemetery, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ed’s name to the Music Ministry program at St. Joseph (Fullerton) Catholic Church.
