James Joseph Abate

Jim was born in Baltimore, Maryland, to Joseph and Gloria Ann Abate (n. Fiore).

He was a graduate of Dundalk High School and the University of Maryland. He was awarded a Master’s Degree by the University of Baltimore. He lived in Maryland with his wife, Mary Claire (Sellers). They were blessed with two sons, Anthony and Kevin. He was a hospital administrator at University Hospital until 1992, when he and his family moved to League City, Texas. There, he worked at UTMB Hospital in Galveston. In 2001, Mary Claire passed away after a long illness. Jim later remarried to Therese (Grossman). Jim was a devoted husband and loving father who enjoyed golfing, reading and traveling when he wasn’t spending time with family.

He retired and stayed in Houston until 2 years ago, when he moved back to Maryland after his wife, Therese, passed away in 2019.

Jim is survived by his two sons, Anthony James and Kevin Peter. He is also survived by his brothers, and a sister—Joseph L Abate (Pam), S. Michael Abate, Robert J. Abate (Sharon), And Gloria Lyles (Alan). Jim is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 26th.
