James Joseph Newell, 3rd, age 90, of White Marsh, Maryland passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2022. James was born July 4, 1931. Beloved husband of 70 years to Betty Newell; devoted father of Linda Newell, Sharon Zimmerman, Susan Hawkins (Troy), Diane O’Day (Scott), Joanne Cross (Mike), Kathleen Bourgeois, Christina Bannon (Tom), Colleen Herold (Charles); cherished grandfather of Lisa, Joanna (Cody), Stephanie (Brett), Criste (Charlie), Colleen (Matt), Michael (Caroline), Tony, David (Sam), Christopher (Kristina), Tommy (Lindsay), Matthew (Christie), Shannon, Katelyn (Jimmy), TJ, Nicholas (Laura), Jenna and Samantha; great grandfather of Kohl, Kyle, Aidan, Greyson, Oliver, Weston, Ryan, Ethan, Macek, Jackson, Jack, Amelia, Emily, Jameson, Reagan and Sylvie; brother-in-law of Barbara Guercio. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
In his younger years James was an accomplished athlete in Baseball being named “Iron Man Newell”, after a number of years he started to coach softball with Shrine of the Little Flower. He also loved his trips and vacations to Dewey Beach, the family trips to Bird in Hand, PA. He was an avid Ravens and O’s fan, and enjoyed playing Bingo and his 4th of July parties. He was quite a handyman who was always helping someone to fix something from electric to pool cleaning.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the Schimunek Funeral Home, Inc. (9705 Belair Road Nottingham, MD 21236) on Monday, January 31 from 2-4p.m & 6-8pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Stephen Catholic Church (Kingsville) on Tuesday, February 1 at 10am. Interment in New Cathedral Cemetery.
