Dear Family of Jim,

I was very saddened to hear of Jim's passing.  I( Al ) lived at the other end of Collington Avenue.  I was friends and a classmate of brother Al. While I remember Al and Jim's parents very well, I am having a hard time recalling Jim.  But, having this opportunity to read about his family and his life along with the photo's, I am begiining to have a sense of the very good man he was.

Please be assured of the prayers for Jim and his family, being said by my spouse, Mary, and me.  To Jim's family I want to say, you are NOT alone in these very difficult times.

So sorry for your loss. Jim was such a nice guy and devoted husband and father. I will always remember him at the baseball and soccer games as a father and a coach who loved rooting for all the kids. Sandy and I will keep you all in our prayers.

I have great childhood memories of running thru the streets of east Baltimore with Jimmy and Joey Svehla and always feeling welcomed in their home on Collington Ave.

I have only a few close friends in my life, but those friends I consider family. I consider the Svehlas part of my family, and that's why it hurt to hear of the passing of Mr. Jim. I think I'm 100% sure that Mr. Jim was the nicest man I've ever met. I was always greeted with a handshake and a smile everytime I saw him. He was a man who was very spiritual, but always had that little wicked sense of humor that could make me laugh, usually at the expense of his boys Mike and Dave (whom he was very proud of.) Mr. Jim (and Mrs. Linda) treated me like a son, which I'll forever be greatful. I visited Mr. Jim when he was first admitted to Hopkins around March or April (I think), and we had a nice pleasant talk for at least hour, filled with laughter and his warm smile. That was the last time I was able to speak to him, and I'm very thankful for it. My prayers are with Mrs. Linda, Dave and Mike during this difficult time. If there was any kind of comfort I could give them, I just hope they know that they truly have an angel looking down on them at all times. Continue to talk to him, cause he's still there. He might not answer the way you want him to, but he's listening. As long as we remember the good times, as long as he's in your heart, he's truly not gone. Salute.
