On Saturday evening, February 9, 2019, Joan Wieland Edwards, at the age of 87, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was an amazing woman, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who left a legacy of a strong Christian faith and a forever positive attitude that will live in our hearts and minds forever. At the time of her death, Joan had lived at Oak Crest Retirement Community in Parkville, MD for nearly four years.
Joan was a 63-year resident of Perry Hall, having moved there from Hampden (Baltimore City) after marrying her husband of nearly 60-years, the late William “Bill” Edwards, who returned to the Lord in 2012 after succumbing to his 9-year battle with Alzheimer’s.
Joan was an active member of Perry Hall Methodist church, where she served as the financial secretary, and oversaw memorial gifts for many years. She was active in both the Girl Scouts and the Boy Scouts of America, raising two Eagle Scout sons (Michael and Steven), and a Gold Girl Scout (Susan). She was also a local troop leader for the Girl Scouts.
She was the beloved wife of the late William Franklin Edwards; devoted mother of Michael W. Edwards of Perry Hall, MD, Steven S. Edwards and his wife Denise of Ellicott City, MD, and Susan L. Ullrich and her husband Bill of Silver Run, MD; loving grandmother of Josh Edwards, Brooke Edwards and her husband Keith Jackson, Kelsey Edwards, Justin Ullrich, Shawn Ullrich, Nicholas Edwards, Nicole Ullrich, Carly Edwards, and Lyndsey Edwards; cherished great-grandmother of Amee Jackson; and dear sister of the late Donald Joseph Wieland. Joan is also survived by her "Brother" Brent Gordon of Georgia and former daughter-in-law Nancy Edwards Molello of Lutherville, MD.
On February 15th, a private funeral was held with the immediate family of Joan.
