A million times we've needed you, a million times we've cried. If love alone could've saved you, you would have never died. In life we loved you dearly, in death we love you still. In our hearts you hold a place no one else could ever fill. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn't go alone. Part of us went with you, the day God took you home. A heart of gold stopped beating, two shining eyes at rest. God broke our hearts to prove He only takes the best. To some you are forgotten, to others, just part of the past. But to us who loved and lost you, the memory will always last. 
We will hold you forever in our hearts Dad. We will love you and miss you always.

For someone who meant so much and loved by all he knew

But heaven saw that he was tired which meant we had to part

Our lives go on without you, but nothing seems the same. We have to hide our heartache when someone speaks you name. Sad are the hearts that love you, silent are the tears that fall. Living without you is the hardest part of all. You did so many things for us, your heart was so kind and true and when we needed someone, we could always count on you. The special years will not return when we are all together. But with the love in our hearts, you will walk with us forever. I will miss you and love you always Grandpa!

John, Ro and Kathleen and Janie...I think of Mr. Etzel was a quiet gentle man with a quick smile. I'm sure he is smiling down, so proud of of you all. 
Keep in mind how much he loves you .... talk with  him as he was still physically beside you. He is listening. Those that love and are loved are never far from our sides, whether in this world or the next. My prayers are with you and your family.

I knew this man from my childhood growing up on Walcott Road. I was close friends with Johnny.   So sorry to see of his passing.  May he rest in peace.

The world has lost a very gentle and wonderful man on Friday, John Rich Etzel.  My sweet BFF, Mary, has said goodbye to her Dad after an unexpected and tragic month long battle.  Although my heart is breaking, I feel honored to have had Rich in my life for 20+ years.  Rich always had a smile on his face and never had an unkind word come out of this man's mouth.  He was always there for his family.  At any get together at the Litz household, Rich could be found close to the food table with utensils in his pocket and my yellow lab, Atty, at his feet.  I think he and Atty had a special relationship that only the two of them enjoyed.  He was unquestionably a true gentleman.  He is now reunited with another truly amazing person, his wife, Mrs. Jane.  I am confident that their reunion has filled them both with joy for eternity.  Mary and her family are fortunate to have two vigilant guardian angels watching over them.  Until we meet again Rich, we love you and will forever miss you.  Rest in peace my friend.

My deeepest sympathy to the Etzel family and friends. I don't know if we are related but I have Etzels in my family tree. (Christine Fulda b.1872 married a John Etzel b.1871)
