So very sorry for your loss. I just heard the announcement of Mr. Joe’s passing at church (St. Stephens) this morning. I do remember Mr. Joe very well … as I remember Mr. Mel. My father (Paul Castello) used to hang out at the station with Joe and Mel. I think customers actually thought my dad worked at the station since he hung out there so much. God bless you all.

While needing your car fixed is never what we look forward to, it was always a nice experience when going to Mel's Auto Repair on Frankfurt Ave. and conversing with Joe & Mel. with almost the auto repair being secondary. Whether it was my wife or me bringing a car to them, we would always take a moment to talk. Often, it was Joe who made you feel like you were visiting a friend rather than the reason you were at the garage. What a nice person he was as well as extremely capable of diagnosing the problem. The combination of Joe and Mel made good memories of the past. Our condolences to the family and friends.

I remember attending a funeral mass at St Anthony Church, I think in 1950, when our class attended the mass because Marge Frankenberger was in our class. I also remember Mrs. Frankenberger stopping on Echodale Ave in 1960 to give me a ride to Hecht Co in Northwood where we worked. I guess she remembered a skinny kid who worked in the store standing on Echodale Ave. waiting for a bus. My mother always remembered things that were important to her so I guess that I remember things that are important to me that happened so many years ago. I hope that you remember the things that happened to you.

Sincerely, Bill Harris
