

Born January 1, 1943 in Geneva, New York, Linda spent a lifetime creating a home and building cherished memories in the many places she called home, including Geneva, New York; Bakersfield, Lomita, and Carmichael, California; Bremerton, Washington; Arlington and Alexandria, Virginia; Honolulu, Hawaii; Towson, Parkville, and Severna Park, Maryland; Shrewsbury and Hanover, Pennsylvania; North Port, Florida; and Mason, Ohio.
Linda studied at the Washington School of Secretaries before beginning her career as a secretary with the Smithsonian Institution's Pacific Ocean Biological Survey Program (POBSP) in Washington, D.C. While she took great pride in her professional accomplishments, her greatest joy and most treasured role was that of homemaker, where she lovingly devoted herself to raising her family. A caring and devoted mother to four children, she found her greatest happiness in the love of her family and was a proud and adoring "Nonnie" to nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immeasurable joy to her life. Linda was a devoted Christian whose faith remained an important part of her life. She was a longtime member of Harvest Chapel in Abbottstown, Pennsylvania, where she enjoyed worship and fellowship. Her faith, love of family, and caring nature were reflected in the way she lived and will be remembered by those who knew her.
Beloved wife of the late Charles Douglas Hackman (1965-1992) and the late Milton C. Vanik (1998-2006); devoted mother of Michael and Jen Hackman of FL, Stephanie and Steve Young of PA, Peter and Crystal Hackman of OH, and Lawrence and Megan Hackman of WA; treasured daughter of the late Virginia E. Hall (nee Pilling) and Bruce M. Hall; dear sister of Diana Kunze and her husband Joe Kunze of AZ and aunt to their children. Preceded in death by Edward B Johnson III, Richard W. Hall; loving grandmother of Tyler and Kaylene Hackman of PA, Brandon Hackman of CO, Doug Lewis of PA, Nicole Lewis of PA, Charles Hackman of OH, Elizabeth Hackman of OH, Vivienne Hackman of OH, Reed Hackman of WA and, Rebecca Hackman of WA; great grandmother of Milo Hackman and Emma Hackman both of Pennsylvania; also survived by Donna and Philip Hackman (brother and sister in law) of VA and aunt to their children and grandchildren, Millie Hackman and the late Robert Hackman (brother and sister in law) of VA and aunt to their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A Private Service will be held graveside on July 16, 2026 at Camp Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Perry Hall, MD.
