Lois Anne Crayton

On July 4th, 2026 Lois Anne Crayton (nee Messick) Transferred to Heaven at the age of 85 in the early hours of the 4th of July with fireworks exploding as she was reunited with her husband Bob, together dancing at the Feet of Jesus. Nana, as she became to many with the birth of her first grandchild, was a remarkable woman of unwavering faith and commitment to family and friends. She loved well and was well loved. Many considered her family and included her in their family celebrations. She was a Bonus Nana to many. She always “showed up”, was kind, welcoming, funny and full of love. Volunteering was her middle name and was very active with both her church and her community. Somehow, she was also still able to work full time as a bookkeeper until she was over 70. She was always working on a project, feeding the homeless with church friends, reading and singing to patients in a nursing home, remembering everybody’s anniversaries and birthdays. Her annual Christmas letter recounted the many trips and family vacations, frequently visiting her family in other states. Often fondly referred to as the Energizer Bunny due to her nonstop activities and the energy and enthusiasm she put into them. Although she lost her sight in her 60’s due to macular degeneration, Lois still managed to continue her many activities recruiting others to participate and give her a ride.

Lois is survived by her daughters Trish Borders (Mike) and Barb Maher, Grandchildren Jason, Nathan (Emilee), Jessica (Dillon), Alex (Laura), Erika (Graham) and Great Grandchildren Sophie, Calan, and Orion. She is also survived by her sister Barbara Verde, and many beloved family members and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Bob Crayton of 54 years and her parents Bishop and Nellie Messick.

Relatives and friends will gather at Schimunek Funeral Home, Inc., 9705 Belair Rd., Nottingham MD 21236, on Sunday, July 12, 2026, from 2-6 p.m. Further visitation will be held on Monday, July 13, 2026, from 1-1:30 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 4815 Hamilton Ave., Baltimore MD 21206, with a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. Interment Gardens of Faith Cemetery.
