Lynda Maria (Roth) Gehrig died November 19, 2020 in her home after a long battle with cancer. She was born February 10, 1949 in Baltimore, Maryland to Elmer and Helena (Von Boeren) Roth. She was the devoted wife of Robert "Bob" Gehrig for 52 years. She is also survived by her daughters, Michelle (Steven) Lipka and Lori (Randy) Reitenauer. And she was loving Nanny to her grandchildren Emily Lipka, Evan Lipka, and Max Reitenauer. She was one of eleven children, and she loved her big family: JoAnn (late Lee) Keller, John (Betty) Roth, Bonnie (Bob) Spellman, Gary (Sharon) Roth, Debra Roth, Larry (Susan) Roth, Connie (Oscar) Almond, Maria (Ken) Linthicum, Marty (Debbie) Boeren, and Karen Boyle, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved dog, Dutch.
Lynda was a Baltimore City Crossing Guard for 19 years in the Belair-Edison Community, where she was known as Mrs. Lynn to countless children. She left to care of her grandchildren and to serve as bookkeeper for her family business, Arcade Press, from which she retired in 2016. Lynda was also PTA President of her children's elementary and high schools for several years.
Lynn was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 50 and was in remission until Fall 2017, when she was diagnosed with uterine cancer and suffered through numerous complications for the last 3 years of her life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Lynda's name to the American Cancer Society.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the Schimunek Funeral Home, Inc. (9705 Belair Road Nottingham, MD 21236) on Saturday, November 21, 2020 from 10:00 am to noon at which time the funeral service will begin. A graveside service will follow at Gardens of Faith in Rosedale at 1:00 pm. Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, masks are required and social distancing will be maintained.
