On June 20, 2026, Merete Johansen Gay passed away peacefully in her home. Merete is the beloved wife of the late Joseph Elbert Gay; devoted mother of Gry-Bente J. Reed and husband Andre, Elissa Jennifer Rhoads, and Charles Nelson Rhoads, Jr. and wife Victoria, cherished daughter of Gerd Johansen and the late Aksel Johansen; loving grandmother of Nikolas Mizdail, Kristian Mizdail, and Joseph Charles Rhoads; dear sister of Ketil Johansen, Hege Christensen, and Jörg Johansen. Merete is also survived by many nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law, loving extended family and friends.
Relatives and friends will gather at the Schimunek Funeral Home, Inc., 9705 Belair Rd, Nottingham MD 21236, on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 2-4 p.m., with a Celebration of Life Service.
