Mr. Richard Herman Roemer

On January 5, 2026, Richard H. Roemer passed away at his home of 38 years. He was the beloved husband of the late Linda Roemer; devoted son of the late Herman and Beatrice Roemer; dear brother of Timothy Roemer and his wife Lyn Canham, and the longtime friend of companion Mary Kulishek.

Rich would be warmly remembered by his valued work colleagues for his many years and impressive responsibilities held with the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA), culminating in a supervisory position with them. He also contributed several more years when he was called back by a private firm to conduct important SHA road construction inspections for them.

Rich was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing for rockfish in the Chesapeake Bay and was a longtime first mate with “Captain Bill” on many fishing outings. Rich also hunted the elusive eastern seaboard goose with his outdoor buddies. Rich joined his brother for many elk hunts in the remote high country of New Mexico at 10,000’. Rich and Tim also went on a couple of black bear hunts, which turned into survival trips, in the wilds of southeastern Alaska.

Rich was a great hunting partner who will forever be missed.

Rich thoroughly enjoyed dining on blue channel crabs and backfin crab cakes, in the summer, from the Chesapeake Bay with a cold beer, while watching the Baltimore Orioles on TV. Rich was always feeding the local whitetail deer that would routinely come into his backyard for a snack of peanut butter, acorns and alfalfa pellets. He loved spending quiet time with his favorite cat Sophie who recently passed in October 2025.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit at Schimunek Funeral Home Inc., 9705 Belair Rd. Nottingham, MD 21236 on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, from 11 AM – 1PM; a graveside service will follow at Highview Cemetery at 1:30 PM.
