She was the beloved wife of the late Kenneth M. Hume; devoted mother of Gwen Goldman (James Frantz), Renee Husselbaugh (Mark Guidot), and Julie Goad (Robert Goad); cherished grandmother of Krista (Dan), Eric, Olivia, Caroline, and Tyler; loving great-grandmother of Jonathan; devoted sister of John Reuter (Janet), and the late Louis Reuter; dear sister-in-law of Juanita Borgerding (Alfred); she is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and friends.
Born on Halloween, October 31, 1933, in Baltimore, Maryland, Rita lived a life filled with kindness, friendship, and unwavering devotion to her family. She was known for her strength and perseverance, her ease at making friends, and the ability to reinvent herself as she aged.
She found joy in her hobbies and her grandchildren. She loved the beach, the casino, eating crabs, playing golf – being especially proud of her hole in one shot, watching the Ravens and Orioles and going to lunch with her friends.
Her legacy is one of strength, unconditional love, and faith — qualities that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit at Schimunek Funeral Home Inc., 9705 Belair Rd. Nottingham, MD 21236, on Monday October, 26, 2026 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 27, 2026 at 10:00 AM, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church (Hydes, MD). Interment will follow at St. John the Evangelist Cemetery.
A luncheon to celebrate her life will immediately follow the interment.
