Robert “Bob” Charles Boileau, 82, of Parkton, MD, passed away on May 25, 2025, at Wellspan York Hospital. A celebration of life will take place at Schimunek Funeral Home, Perry Hall, MD, on June 7th from 1-3:30pm. Bob was born in Aero Acres in Baltimore County. He attended Kenwood High School, where he served as class president and excelled in varsity sports, graduating with honors in 1960. After high school, he attended the University of Maryland, graduating with a bachelor's degree in physical education and beginning his journey in Olympic Weight Training which would become a significant component of his life. After beginning his teaching career at Charles County Community College, he joined the faculty at Essex Community College. Bob coached lacrosse, wrestling, built the weight and strength training programs, and taught health courses. He obtained Master's Degrees from the University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins University. Bob's teaching career spanned 4 decades. He was an intense, committed teacher appreciated by many students before retiring in 2007. During these years, Bob raised two children.
He was a single father long before society recognized fathers’ rights. His dedication and devotion to his son and daughter, and later to his grandsons, was his life's driving force. To supplement his teacher's income, he had a variety of part time jobs. He was a bouncer, taught reading to Jessup Penitentiary inmates, drove a beer delivery truck with his son Brian one summer, and most importantly had a firewood business. Demonstrating his true grit, he cut close to 500 chords of wood which became a symbol of his ability to do whatever it takes to provide for his family.
Bob's passion for hunting and the outdoors was shared with his friends and family from the early days in La Plata to the apple orchards of Loch Raven and finally on his 82 acres in Tioga County. It was on his mountain top in Pennsylvania where he found true peace and quiet in an ever-changing world. It meant so much to him to teach his grandsons what he had taught his daughter and late son about life, love, and the outdoors. Bob's legacy of boundless love and extreme generosity served as a beautiful example for his 4 grandsons to carry forward into their lives and the people they love. This is Bob's legacy: Family First and Forever.
Bob is survived by his wife Christine, his daughter Audra Lynn (Neil) Stragey, preceded in death by his son Robert “Brian” (Teresa) Boileau. Stepdaughter Erin (Paul Atkinson) Cunningham, stepson Patrick (Georgia) Cunningham, his four grandsons, Kyle (Gia) Boileau, Brett (MacKenzy Kaplan) Boileau, Evan Craig, Dillon (Edie) Craig, step grandchildren, Eamon, Alexei, Cady, Mara Atkinson, and Quinn and Teddy Cunningham. Great grandbabies, Parker Brian Boileau and Owen Charles Craig and arriving in August, Kyle and Gia’s baby girl, and his brothers Raymond (Lynn) Boileau and Michael (Marlene) Boileau, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to the family members above, Bob opened his heart and home to many friends that became like family and because his heart was huge, the list is long. They know who they are, and they touched his life in a profoundly beautiful way.
A receiving of friends for Robert will be held Saturday, June 7, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM at Schimunek Funeral Home, Inc., 9705 Belair Rd, Nottingham, MD 21236, with a Celebration of Life beginning at 2:30 PM.
