Thomas S. Douglass Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Joppatowne on June 6, 2025. He was born on April 15, 1953, in Maryland to Marie Douglass (Velnosky) and the late Thomas S. Douglass Sr.
After graduating from Edgewood High School in 1973, Tom dedicated over 32 years of service to General Motors Corporation, retiring with a legacy of hard work and commitment. On July 19, 1984, he married Brenda Douglass, and together they shared over 40 wonderful years of love and partnership.
Tom will be remembered for his warm presence and unmistakable bright smile, which could light up any room. He had a natural ability to strike up conversations with those he knew or didn’t know. He cherished every moment spent with family, especially playing with his grandchildren. His love for people and gatherings made him the heart of his family and community.
A lifelong Maryland resident, Tom never strayed far from home, choosing to remain close to his sons, grandchildren, mother, and siblings. He had a deep passion for hunting, fishing, and collecting trains, and he enjoyed attending auctions and yard sales. Traveling was also a special part of his life. He and Brenda took a cross-country road trip, visited the Grand Canyon, and embarked on a land-and-sea adventure to Alaska. Together, they made cherished memories with friends in Virginia, playing cards and visiting casinos.
Tom is survived by his devoted wife, Brenda Douglass, and his loving children: Damon and Jessie Davies, Benjamin and Marlene Douglass, Travis Douglass and Heather Slaski. He was a proud grandfather to Samantha Davies, Haley Davies, Julia Davies, Paul and Nicole Douglass, Brady Douglass, Hunter Douglass, Madison Douglass, Adeline Douglass, Dawson Douglass, Carson Douglass, and Tenley Douglass, and great-grandfather to Preslee Jo Douglass. He is also survived by his sister, Marie Adams and the late brother-in-law Daniel Adams, and brothers Joseph and Carol Douglass and Steven Douglass, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Tom was loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A family and friends’ visitation and memorial service will be held at Schimunek Funeral Home, 9705 Belair Rd, Nottingham, MD 21236, on Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 5:00 to 6:00 PM, to honor his memory.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation https://kidneytribute.rallybound.org/Thomas-Douglass
