On August 18, 2024 William Thomas “Bill” Fell, Jr. passed away. He was the beloved husband of Diana Eleanor Fell (nee Douglass); devoted father of William T. Fell, III and his wife Natalie, and Mark C. Fell; loving son of the late William T. Fell, Sr. and Pauline F. Fell; dear brother of the late Bertha Barbara Kuchta and Ellamarie Leyh. Bill is survived by his beloved pets Tobie, Lil Bob, Chewie and Mellow, as well as nieces, nephews, family members and many friends.
Bill grew up in Baltimore City’s East side and attended St. Elizabeth School at Lakewood Ave. and Baltimore St. He was an Alter Boy for St. Elizabeth's Church and always took pride in still remembering the Latin. He then attended Baltimore Polytechnic Institute’s “A” Course. For a time, while in High School, he held a manager's position in the evening at one of A & P's stores and often fell asleep in his classes. After High School and having such a knack for numbers and math, he studied at Sparrows Point's machinist classes. He became one of their A-Rate Machinist, but only for a short time. Having also at that time a fascination for science and the environment, he continued his studies in Entomology. After High School, he continued his studies in Entomology from Penn State University and Perdue University. During his studies, he started his Pest Control Company. A natural in business, his company grew along with a lawn care company he also started. Both operating under the name of Montgomery Wards. Together these companies grew to 32 employees with over 4,000 customers in the Maryland, D.C., northern Virginia areas. In 1978 he was elected President of the Maryland Pest Control Association and served for one year until 1979 which consisted of 180 companies in the Mid-Atlantic area. In that position, he represented the structural pest control industry with The Department of Agriculture and while working with regulators, he was instrumental in drafting new regulations under The Maryland Pesticide Regulations Act. One of the many accomplishments while serving that role was the drafting of the WDI Inspection Form. It is used today to transfer title and refinancing with banks and better known as the Termite Report.
While operating his profitable business, he invested profits in residential property and furthered that second career by becoming a Real Estate Broker and creating Royal Reality in 1986. Thereafter he acquired hundreds of properties throughout Baltimore City and Baltimore County. He retired from his pest control company in 1997 but still kept all his certifications current and in good standing with the State of Maryland. He still gave lectures on Mammalian Toxicity of which he was considered an expert. He and his business partner went to Annapolis to the State of Maryland Legislation as pioneers for the Humane control of Bats in Pest Control.
After his retirement, his investments in Real Estate expanded to other states and involved Mobile Home Parks in Clearwater Beach and Panama City Beach, Florida; condos in Miami Beach and Treasure Island, Florida, apartment complexes in Panama City Beach; luxury home building on the Gulf of Mexico, and over sixty single family homes in Memphis, Tennessee. He owned and managed 15 to 20 properties with his partner.
He acted as the President of the Baltimore REIA Association from 2008-2015 and oversaw the very popular Strategy Group Meetings and Advanced Option Technique Classes at the Baltimore REIA.
Bill touched so many people with his teaching, he brought 40 years of hands on experience to his classes. He taught people the good, bad and ugly of the house business along with all of the winning formulas Bill has used for years.
Bill was also an avid Marathon runner and has many medals from many different marathons. He also ran a marathon for the Johns Hopkins Make-A-Wish foundation. He also had a love for animals. He started his own 501 (c)(3) animal rescue in memory of his own dog he lost called For The Love of Little Mickey.
At the request of the family memorial services that were to be held at Schimunek Funeral Home have been cancelled at this time. A Memorial Mass will be held on a future date.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Bill’s name to any of the following charities Pet Rescue of Maryland, House With a Heart Senior Pet Sanctuary, Defenders of Animal Rights, or PETA.
