William I. Stratemeyer, 83, passed away on June 12, 2025. He was born on August 23, 1941, in Essex, Maryland, to the late John H. Sr. and Edna M. (nee McKoy) Stratemeyer. He was married to the late Melva “Mitzi” M. (nee Malenski) Stratemeyer.
Bill graduated from Kenwood High School in 1959. He served in the United States Coast Guard, then worked as a millwright mechanic at Bethlehem Steel for 36 years. Bill was an avid coin collector, deeply involved in the Maryland State Numismatic Association, and served on the committee to design the Maryland State quarter.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Brenda Stratemeyer; his two granddaughters, Courtney and Caitlin Stratemeyer; his brother and sister-in-law, John H. Jr. and Barbara Stratemeyer; niece, Pearl Mikulski and her family; nephew, William Congdon, his wife Colleen, and their family; nephew, Christopher Stratemeyer, his wife Kathleen, and their family; good friend Eva Allen; and many other relatives and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his sister, Gurleen Prokop.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at Schimunek Funeral Home Inc., 9705 Belair Road, Nottingham, MD, 21236, on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, from 9:30-10:30AM with a memorial service to follow at 10:30AM. Inurnment will take place at Holy Rosary Cemetery, 7305 German Hill Road, Baltimore, MD, 21222, immediately after the memorial service.
