Eric Hahs passed away unexpectedly on August 21, 2021 at 60 years of age. He was born on November 14, 1960 in St Louis, MO. He and his family lived in Clayton, MO until the family moved to Novato, CA in 1974 where Eric happily spent the rest of his life.
He is survived by his wife and best friend, Karin Waters, with whom he had a long and loving partnership that started in 1990. They were not apart for more than 30 days total over the course of the next 31 years. He is also survived by his Aunt Jane Kuhnert of Cutler, IL and many first and second cousins in Illinois and Missouri. He shared special relationships with his cousins, Monte Kuhnert of Du Quoin, IL and Laura Meyers of St Louis, MO.
Eric was preceded in death by his parents, Robert “Sonny” Carroll Hahs and Wanda Lee (Kuhnert) Hahs, and his brother, Kurtlan Karroll Hahs.
He attended Sinaloa Middle School and graduated from San Marin High in Novato. He continued his education at Marin Community College. He worked as a carpenter and retired early. He is described by his lifelong friends as a kind, compassionate person and ‘one of a kind’.
Eric is a proud doggy dad to Sparky and Toby and spent his days taking care of our household and enjoying life. Many friends entrusted “Hahs Hounds” with their furbabies. Eric and Karin enjoyed traveling, although Eric required some convincing early on 😊. They were often accompanied by family and friends, which only enhanced their experiences. Cruising and road tripping being the favorites, they never missed the opportunity to stop at a vista or to take that side road and you shouldn’t either.
Anyone who ever met Eric knows of his love of all things Harley Davidson and Indian motorcycle related. He enjoyed a lifelong membership with the American Motorcyclist Association and was a Charter Member. His idea of heaven on earth was two wheels on the ground and the wind in his face.
A small private service will be held in the near future at Valley Memorial Park in Novato, where Eric will be laid to rest with his parents and brother. A Celebration of Life party will be held on Thursday, September 23rd at the Hopmonk Tavern, Novato in the beer garden area from 6-8pm.
Anyone wishing to make a donation should consider the Humane Society, Disabled American Vets (DAV), Wounded Warrior Project, or the Cancer Society which were his favorite charities.
