He joined the Army Air Core in 1949. He retired from the United States Air Force on October 9, 1969, while last stationed at Hamilton Air Force Base. He reached the rank of Master Sergeant. During his military career, he was a radiology technician.
He married Betsy Juanita Harris, and they both raised six children together. After retirement, George moved with his wife and children to Novato in 1970. There, he started his own business: Marin Portable X-Ray Service, serving private homes and care facilities throughout Marin County. During his years with Marin Portable X-Ray Service, he also served as a Deputy Coroner for Marin County.
He was a member of the Masons and was an Alpha. George enjoyed reading the daily newspaper in his favorite chair by his living room window. He had a passion for cooking and gardening. He was an avid 49er’s fan. George touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, and he maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end.
He is survived by his five children: George Cagle Jr, Sherli Fitt (husband, Arnold Sr.) Michele China, Dr. Yvonne Cagle, and Steven Cagle. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Gwen Cagle and his sister Pearlie Mae. His sister, Willie Ingram, survives him. He also has twelve grandchildren: Johnsie, Candace, Andrew, Alison, Michael, Marcus, Miriam, Ashley, Shohan, Adrianne, Arnold Jr, Aaron, and five great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements will be held at 11:00 am, March 17th, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church.
