Clarence Rosford Ness, age 88 years of San De Fuca passed away on January 24, 2013.He was born on April 27, 1924 in Redmond, Washington to Anton and Stella (Rosford) Ness. He grew up in Gold Bar, Washington . After serving in the Army during WWII he attended Western Washington State College in Belingham where he met and married Margery Traulsen. After they both earned teaching certificates, they moved to eastern Washington where they settled in Ritzville for the next 15 years. Both of their children were born there. They moved their family to new opportunities on Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands. After two years there they moved to Whidbey Island and lived there for the next 45 years. Overall, Clarence worked as a classroom teacher for 10 years and then served as a elementary principal for 20 years. He was the principal here in Oak Harbor at Broadview Elementary and later at Crescent Harbor. Clarence was a longtime (50 + years)member of the Lions Club. He loved children, fishing, woodworking, cutting firewood and visiting his many friends. He had a lifelong love of geography. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren. He was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him.
Clarence is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margery, his children, Laurie Starr and her husband Stan of Bellingham and Dave Ness and his wife Karen of Winthrop, three grandchildren Adam (Connie) Starr, Betsy Starr, and Brita Ness, one great granddaughter Lucy Starr, sister Stella Walcker of Chelan and sister-in-law Mildred Ness of Monroe and a cousin Arlyn Vallene of Redmond. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother George Ness. The Ness family would like to thank their many friends who have offered their love and support.
